The International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus is inviting abstract submissions to the 18th World Congress for Esophageal Diseases being held in Tokyo, Japan from September 26-28, 2022.
The ISDE 2022 World Congress is the event to present your new discoveries and connect with a global network of industry experts in esophageal diseases. As a hybrid Congress, this year's presentations can be either virtual or in-person at the Congress in Tokyo, Japan.
The Congress brings together multiple specialties focused on the clinical management and research of patients with esophageal diseases including basic scientists, physicians, surgeons, other health professionals and members of related industries.
This year we are pleased to be working closely with the Japan Esophageal Society (JES), who will be hosting their annual meeting prior to the ISDE World Congress at the same venue. The programs for both society meetings will be independent and you may choose to attend one or both meetings.

The Diseases of the Esophagus Journal hosted a virtual panel for early-career investigators on publishing their research and studies in the Journal. During this live forum Dr. Judy Trieu posed questions to Professor Daniela Molena, Professor Neil Gupta and Professor Vani Konda on ways to identify research questions, secure resources and more. Attendees were invited to join small breakout sessions at the end to share their thoughts and ask questions.
Below is a list of the questions addressed during the presentation.
The ISDE wishes to sincerely thank the following individuals for their contributions to this presentation:

The French Association of Esophageal Atresia is welcoming research project proposals aimed at improving the management of esophageal pathologies. Through this award the society wishes to draw the attention of researchers in pathology and raise awareness of the difficulties encountered by physicians who manage esophageal atresia and encourage new avenues of study. Since its creation, the AFAO has awarded 19 research prizes totaling €200,000.
Due to the rare nature of esophageal pathologies, research projects that aim to improve awareness and the treatment of these pathologies are few and far between. Since 2007, the French Association for esophageal atresia (AFAO – Association Francaise de l'Atresie de L'Esophage) has regularly asked for applications for the Prix Fanny-Selena (prior to 2017, the Prix Fanny) in memory of two girls who passed away because of their disease.
The prize has enabled research to be initiated with a clear focus on the esophagus - an essential, functional but under-researched organ.
Deadline for applications is May 15, 2022.

Myotomy in sigmoid megaesophagus: is it applicable? A systematic review and meta-analysis Editor's Choice - Free Article Achalasia is a rare esophageal primary motor dysfunction with no cure. The aim of the achalasia therapy is to palliate the symptoms, mainly dysphagia. Its treatment usually focuses on inferior esophageal sphincter disruption, leading to facilitated food transit to the stomach. It can be done by surgical myotomy or endoscopic procedures, such as cardia dilatation or peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). Read the full article.
Severity of GERD and disease progression Editor's Choice - Free Article Many factors may play a role in the severity and progression of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) since pathophysiology is multifactorial. Data regarding the progression of GERD are controversial: some reports of increased esophageal acid exposure (EAE) and mucosal damage were considered as evidence for a stable disease course, while others interprete these findings as disease progression. The aim of this study is to analyze a large patient-population with persisting symptoms indicative of GERD under protonpumpinhibitor-therapy and identify components characterizing disease severity and progression.
